Support

Connect only the sources you choose. MyFIREDesk is read-only, stores broker credentials in macOS Keychain, and never needs trading permission, a recovery phrase, or a crypto private key.

Quick start

  1. Open Accounts in MyFIREDesk.
  2. Enable only the broker or wallet sections you intend to use.
  3. Save broker credentials when prompted, or add a public wallet address.
  4. Return to Dashboard and choose Refresh.
Safe by design

Broker connections retrieve reporting data. Crypto connections inspect public blockchain data. MyFIREDesk cannot place trades or move assets.

Interactive Brokers Flex

MyFIREDesk needs an Activity Flex Query in XML format, its Query ID, and a Flex Web Service token. Create the query in the IBKR Client Portal:

  1. Open Performance & Reports → Flex Queries.
  2. Create a new Activity Flex Query.
  3. Set the output format to XML and choose the account or linked accounts you want included.
  4. Add Account Information with account ID and currency.
  5. Add Open Positionswith: position, position value, symbol, contract ID, account ID, currency, asset category, cost basis money, and FIFO unrealized P&L. Description, mark price, and FX rate to base are recommended.
  6. Add Cash Report with account ID, currency, and ending cash.
  7. Save the query and copy the displayed Query ID.
  8. Open Flex Web Service Configuration, enable the service, generate a token, and copy the current token.
  9. In MyFIREDesk, enable IBKR Flex, enter the Query ID, save the token, and refresh.

A Flex token can expose reports for every linked account included in the query. Choose the shortest practical expiry and rotate the token if it is ever exposed. An IP allowlist is optional, but it can prevent refreshes when your Mac changes networks.

eToro read-only keys

  1. Sign in to eToro and open Settings → Trading.
  2. Find API Key Management and choose Create New Key.
  3. Give the key a recognizable name such as “MyFIREDesk”.
  4. Select Demo or Real. A key works only with the environment selected when it was created.
  5. Select Read permission. Do not grant Write permission to MyFIREDesk.
  6. Complete eToro's verification and copy the Public Key and Private Key.
  7. In MyFIREDesk, select the matching environment and save both keys.

API Key Management may not be available for every account, entity, or region. If eToro rejects a key, confirm the environment, permission, and account availability. Revoke or rotate a key from eToro if your Mac or key material is compromised.

Public crypto wallets

Never paste a secret

Enter only a public address or, for Bitcoin, an account-level xpub, ypub, or zpub. Never enter a seed phrase, recovery phrase, private key, or exchange withdrawal credential.

Ethereum

Add a public 0x… address. MyFIREDesk reads native ETH and ERC-20 balances returned by Blockscout. Tokens without a usable market price can appear without contributing to the portfolio total. NFTs and DeFi positions are excluded.

BNB Smart Chain

Add a public 0x… address for native BNB. To include BEP-20 tokens, add each verified public token contract on its own line. The app accepts up to 30 contracts per wallet. Verify contracts using an official project source or trusted block explorer; scam tokens often copy names and symbols.

Bitcoin address or extended public key

A normal Bitcoin address shows only that address. An account-level xpub, ypub, or zpub lets MyFIREDesk derive receiving and change addresses locally and scan them with a gap limit. Extended public keys cannot spend funds, but they reveal related addresses, balances, and transaction history. Treat them as privacy-sensitive. Only Bitcoin mainnet keys are supported.

Solana

Add a public Solana address. MyFIREDesk includes available SOL, native SOL stake accounts controlled by that address, and supported PSOL balances. Other SPL tokens, NFTs, compressed assets, and DeFi positions are not currently included.

Public wallet addresses are visible on their blockchains. Querying an address also sends it, together with normal network information such as your IP address, to the relevant data service. See the data-sources disclosure for the exact services used.

Cash and deposits

Add a bank balance, term deposit, or certificate of deposit without connecting a provider. Enter the current value and a three-letter currency code such as EUR or USD. Manual entries stay on this Mac and are converted using the portfolio FX rate during refresh.

Troubleshooting refreshes

  • IBKR returns no holdings: confirm XML output and include both Open Positions and Cash Report with the fields listed above.
  • IBKR token fails: check its expiry, query/account selection, and any IP allowlist.
  • eToro rejects the request: make sure Real/Demo matches the key and that the key has Read permission.
  • A crypto balance is incomplete: confirm the network, public address, and token contract. Unsupported and unpriced assets are intentionally excluded from totals.
  • A service is temporarily unavailable: wait and refresh again. Public blockchain and market-data endpoints can enforce rate limits or experience downtime.
